What is orthodontics?

Orthodontics is the branch of dentistry concerned with the proper positioning and alignment of one’s teeth. Depending on genetics and acquired habits, one may develop a malocclusion or a bad bite. Examples include crowding, underbite, overbite or gaps in between teeth. These can sometimes cause issues with speech, eating habits and excessive wear if they are not corrected. Orthodontic treatment is often used to improve the aesthetics of one’s smile and general facial structure. The overall goal is to find a healthy and sustainable balance between function and aesthetics.
